Step 1 - Create
Your Business The Right Way
First
- Sell Something People Want To Buy
It sounds so
easy. It's really common sense! To make the most money, you need to sell
products that people want to buy.
Easy to say,
of course. But sometimes surprisingly difficult! Why else would there be
so many zillions of things for sale on the Internet?
When choosing
what to sell, you need to consider lots including:
- Audience.
Who is your audience? Where's your audience? Are you well-known to your
audience? Is it easy to reach your audience? And perhaps most importantly,
will your audience recognize how valuable your product is and buy it?
- Mentor.
Mentors are wonderful people who help you navigate the industry to which
you sell. Do you know someone who can provide valuable advice? Do you know
how to find one if you don't? Do you know enough to ask for help when you
need it? The Society of Retired Executives
has lots of folks who love helping out, for example.
- Product/Service.
What are you selling? Are you passionate about it? The more interested
you are in what you are selling, the more fun you'll have, so the more
you'll work on it, and the more money you will make (it's common sense).
What about inventory? Shipping? Contact numbers? Production costs?
- Transactions.
How easy will it be for your customer to buy? Can you process credit cards
and provide real-time gratification? Can folks buy directly from your web
site?Folks who shop on the Internet are used to getting things yesterday,
so having a good means of transacting sales will only improve your business.
It bears repeating.
If you know your market well, and have a product/service your audience
wants to buy, your way to success will be that much easier.
Second
- Don't Spend Big Bucks Until You Know It Will Be A Success
One of the really,
truly wonderful things about marketing on the Internet is you don't have
to waste any money on physical store fronts, rent, cleaning, parking and
the rest. Even better, if you are selling an informational or related product,
you can produce on demand! Instead of rolling out 500 or 1000 samples of
a product, you can print/produce them when your customers buy start to
buy!
Think of the
money you can save!
Third
- Become Part Of The Entrepreneur Community For Free
As an entrepreneur,
you are most definitely not alone. The Internet is full of fellow professionals
like yourself who offer advice and wisdom freely. These people gather at
forums or bulletin boards for entrepreneurs, as well as forums and bulletin
boards in the area in which you would like to sell. For example, two of
the best entrepreneur/homebiz boards are at http://www.ablake.net/forum
and http://www.friendsinbusiness.com/board
. Visit them now! See how everyone helps one another. And this is all for
free!
Not only that,
but as previously mentioned, you can find colleagues at your interest boards,
too. For example, people dealing with the recruiting industry hang out
at The Recruiter's
Coffeeshop. Realtors frequent The
Top 10 Realty Board. No matter to what industry you sell, you'll find
a board dedicated towards it. And if none of the available boards meets
your needs, who is to say you can't start your own? :-)
