people love playing online. You might have heard about World of Warcraft, the:

….World of Warcraft is an online role-playing experience set in the award-winning Warcraft universe. Players assume the roles of Warcraft heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest across a vast world. World of Warcraft is a “Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game” which allows thousands of players to interact within the same world. Well! Did you know that it promotes less violence as well? To wit:

The latest psychological probe into the weird world of gaming reveals that online gamers are less likely to feel aggressive after slaughtering a mob of orcs or trolls.

According to Jane Barnett from Middlesex University, a study of 292 ‘World of Warcraft’ players found that the gamers were more likely to feel calm or tired after playing.

The group of male and females, aged between 12 and 83 years, were asked to complete a questionnaire on anger and personality before and after a two hour gaming session.

Miss Barnett said, “There were actually higher levels of relaxation before and after playing the game as opposed to experiencing anger, but this did very much depend on personality type.

“This will help us to develop an emotion and gaming questionnaire to help distinguish the type of gamer who is likely to transfer their online aggression into everyday life.”….MORE….

Now, I’m quite familiar with Runescape, mind you, but hey. Perhaps this is something to which I should introduce my kids as well. :)

  1. I actually have never noticed this before, but this is a really good point. Maybe this is why WoW is so popular? I know that some parents even play WoW with their kids!
