Over the past week, I’ve been teaching myself one heck of a lot regarding using Squidoo. I can’t believe I’ve been so remiss with learning about this site!
First off, what IS Squidoo, I hear you ask?
The brainchild of Seth Godin, it gives anyone who can type on a keyboard the ability to craft a useful page about their interests in one location so others can benefit from their knowledge.
I’m quite hooked on the goodness of Squidoo for a multitude of reasons. One, it levels the playing field for anyone to make their mark on the Internet. Even if you don’t know a lick of HTML or CSS, you can easily pull in videos, images, links, quizzes, polls and much more via its module interface.
Two, you can also use it to make money as well by either:
- Driving traffic to your site
- Embedding affiliate links in your lens
- Growing your social network
As you might know, when I get interested in something useful online, I try to spread the word as effectively as possible! Thus, I added a new category to the Make Money Forums – Squidoo Marketing. Welcome to the world of Squidoo Barbara. It definitely is a good resource. I haven’t really explored the money to be made through ad sharing on squidoo, but I do use squidoo to drive traffic to my websites and to build links. With one squidoo lens I am able to link to 10 – 20 of my pages, helping the search engine rankings of all of them. In addition to squidoo, you may want to check out hubpages.com….similar concept but stricter rules. The stricter rules results in the ability to get your hubpages hub ranked higher in the search engines.

Squidoo is a great way for people to make money without the cost of setting up a domain and hosting, but I’ve found that Squidoo lenses require a TON of work for them to bring in more than just spending money. That being said, they’re great for building backlinks to other websites.

I agree that a squidoo lens may not be the best source of income. If you’re going to spend all that time promoting a lens, why not just create your own blog or website. That way you aren’t sharing commission with squidoo and your income is more stable. I also find it more useful as a link building strategy.
It should be part of your overall income fitness.
Please do not stop posting on this blog.. this is one of the best blogs I have ever seen on this topic and a lot of info to be found here.
