Beginning in the late 1990s, social media has taken off in recent years with the advent of social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. However, the humble blogging sites which were a part of the original onset are a sign of how fast the idea of internet networking has grown and how vital it has become.
The original blogging sites such as LiveJournal and OpenDiary were originally intended to appeal to the teenage/young adult world as a forum through which to generate their thoughts online for a selective audience. This was what blogging was originally about; now it has evolved into this overarching figure of the internet world in which people blog about nearly everything, not just their own thoughts and ideas.
Today, there are blogs for every walk of life, and a website is almost incomplete without the addition of a blog. Blogs have helped companies reach out to a new client base by explaining their expertise and the relevance of many current events.
Blogs began their own revolution during the onset of the Iraq War in 2002, in which many news correspondents took to describing their own experiences through many blogs, and this thus mutated into political pundits using them, thereby becoming a new political forum for the 2004 presidential campaign. Since this time, most bloggers have not looked back and have since developed an even bigger blogging base for newcomers. Therefore, it is integral that upon your creation of a website which actively promotes yourself, you need to additionally develop a blog that relates to your business ideals or can simply help explain who it is you are. Blogs help your audience understand you better as a person and attracts clients who are able to relate to you on a personal level.
This new creation of blogs led to the institution of social networking sites around 2000, beginning with Friendster and ending up with Twitter in the past years. Twitter has taken over the internet world in recent years, and does not seem to be slowing down in terms of its popularity. It is additionally important when establishing yourself on these sites that you have links to your profile on each site, whether you have Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.
Finding people with similar business attributes is an important aspect of simply starting out on your online ventures and once you graduate with your degree, you will be prepared to market yourself in these methods.
