If you’re like me

and have kids for whom “Easter” means “megaChocolateOverload”, you probably got up at 3am to artfully scatter thousands of wayward calories about the house (after which you probably retreated back to your warm cozy bed and hoped to snatch at least 13 more minutes of dreamy luxurious sleep before giving that up as The Impossible Dream).

And upon waking, you probably sacrified the 18 eggs that were on sale at your local Costco so your kids could creatively splatter color dye all over the kitchen floor, ceiling, and stray moving coffee cups. If so, you’re probably now getting ready to enjoy YAFFHWTF (yet another fun filled holiday with the family). Am I right?

But! Were you aware! Really savvy kids know that the true Easter Eggs aren’t those that can double as a rubber bouncy ball; instead, they’re clever software hacks found in today’s popular software, websites, books, movies and the like.

It’s true! For example, let’s say that you use Microsoft Vista. Did you know there’s a secret holographic Easter egg on the CDROM cover?

What about websites? Well, visit Yahoo and click on the exclamation mark at the top. Neat, huh?

There’s tons of Easter eggs in older versions of software, but as the years go by, less and less are added due to malware/security concerns. You can find some great oldies and new goodies at:

Thus, if you want to impress your nieces and nephews and cousins and kids, do some research for their favorite games/software and ask, hey, were you aware? Guaranteed, they’ll be impressed. And wonder just how you got so smart. :)
